This city is the county seat of Portage County, located in the central part of Wisconsin.  Stevens Point is home to 24,551 residents. The city is somewhat of a college town as the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point draws in about 10,000 students. Stevens Point is also the center of its micropolitan area, in which about 48,123 individuals live. The surrounding areas are smaller villages and towns such as Plover, Whiting, Custer, Park Ridge and Hull. Weather in the area ranges between 20º and 80º with four distinct seasons. Education
The University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point is a public university known for its undergraduate and graduate programs in natural resources as well as its forestry, paper science, biology and teaching degrees. The University is blessed with a 20:1 student-faculty ratio and is consistently ranked as one of the top Public Midwestern Universities Offering up to a Master's by the U.S. News and World Report. Other colleges in the area include the Mid-State Technical College and the Northcentral Technical College. Private grade schools in the city are served by the Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools which operate 6 parish schools including a preschool. Public schools are provided by the Stevens Point Area Public School District which manages 14 schools, including learning centers and an alternative school.

Attractions
As Stevens Point is conveniently located in the state's center, it is a popular meeting point for state conventions and state youth sporting events. It is also a midway point for tourists visiting North Woods from Chicago and Milwaukee.  The city has 20 parks, a 26-mile bicycling and jogging trail that winds through the city, an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones signature golf course, a premier country club, and many quality museums.  Stevens Point's downtown area has been recognized as a Wisconsin Main Street Community, offering one-of-a-kind specialty shops, a great selection of restaurants and a shopping mall. Also downtown is The Square, a popular nightlife destination for college students. City events include the Fourth of July Riverfront Rendezvous, the Portage County Cultural Festival, and the world's largest trivia contest. The contest is run by a local radio station involving over 12,000 contestants in over 400 teams and occurs during the last weekend in April and lasts for 54 consecutive hours.
